Mongolia: A Crucial Ally for America Pt.2

George William

In his farewell address, George Washington said, “It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world.” Yet here we are, because of people who thought themselves more intelligent than those who built the longest-surviving Constitution in the world. Now, we have countless long-lasting entanglements with foreign powers across the globe.

The reason why such things should be avoided is simple. Here are just a few examples. Our interests don’t always align with another country’s. We don’t want to be pulled into situations that have nothing to do with us, nor vice versa. We might agree one decade and be at each other’s throats another. Countries, like people, change over time, because countries are nothing but a representation of the people in them. “But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature?” James Madison.

Let us, however, look at the disinterests. The things we don’t have in common. Sometimes we form close bonds with other nations, not for the things we want, but for the things we don’t want. Take for example, in the late 90’s to early 00’s what we did want was the Democratization of the Middle East. Communism had died with the USSR in 91 and it was time for Western ideals to take over- a new era of peace and prosperity. To be fair, we still want that today, minus making every country a Democracy.

What is it at a minimum that we don’t want? Iran to get nukes, to become more powerful than it already is, and to spread terrorism all over the world. What we don’t want has made us make some interesting connections with others just because we align against Iran. Look for example, at the Abraham Accords that was instituted under Trump which brought so many countries together all because they recognized the threat of Iran.

What are the things we don’t want in the world? Who are the threats to America? Who would be on our side against these threats when we face internal turmoil? These are the questions we must ask ourselves.

  • Firstly, what do we not want? We don’t want our enemies to have power over us in any measure. We can no longer be dependent on a nation hostile to us for commercial commodities, our financial and/or material future.
  • Secondly, who is a threat to our security? Our biggest threat currently in the world is China. This is an obvious fact. Everyone admits it, yet no one wants to do anything about it because of how integrated our whole economy is  with theirs.
  • Finally, who would be on our side against these threats when we face internal turmoil? Simply, we must find a nation that aligns with us in the first two questions. Israel time and time again has been a solid ally against the threats in the Middle East despite whatever issues we have here at home and when our support stumbles. This is because they recognize it is a life-or-death situation with or without our help. And despite what many would think, vice versa is the same.

Mongolia Fills the Void

Who fills this mysterious void that I have painted? Mongolia. If you read Pt. 1 of this series of articles, you have seen that I gave a defense for my support of Mongolia primarily because of Russian aggression. I am doing the same now because of China.

China smells blood in the water. Blood that has been spilled through their actions against us and through our own misguided decisions. Because of this, they have increased their outward shows of force towards Taiwan.

This is why we need Mongolia as an ally. They would continue the great struggle against our foes when we are unable. It is in their interest to do so. They only need our support. And if we are to survive this era against such a great foe, we need all the friends we can get.
